Unblemished by Sara Ella

“Unblemished” by Sara Ella | BOOK REVIEW

Unblemished by Sara EllaUnblemished by Sara Ella follows Eliyana, a seventeen-year-old girl who shies away from her own reflection– with a large birthmark on her face, she’s convinced that she is ugly. But she is told that her mother is dead and is transferred into the guardianship of the boy she’s been in love with for years, things start to change. What starts out as a tumultuous teenage story turns into a dark and twisty adventure into another realm, filled with self-discovery, the battle between darkness and the light, and learning that beauty is more than skin deep.

I was absolutely thrilled to receive an ARC of Unblemished— full disclosure, I know and love the author through the magic of the bookish online community. I knew how long she’s dreamed of publishing her own book and was so excited to see her dream coming true! I was, however, slightly nervous– I had never reviewed a book by someone I knew. What if I didn’t like it? What would I say? Let’s be clear about one thing– that was an obstacle I never had to face, as I completely fell head over heels in love with Unblemished.

I was entranced with the world that Sara Ella created– the maps at the beginning of the book was such a helpful tool to help me truly understand the magical worlds and what was going on. She built them so strongly that I felt as though I could close my eyes and see exactly what Eliyana was seeing, from the trickle of the rivers to the deep green of the forests.

Similarly, I was incredibly impressed with the character-building within Unblemished. We witness Eliyana grow from a shy, frightened young girl into a powerful young woman, willing to fight for what she believes in and for who she loves. And unlike many other books, we also see the other characters develop– something that definitely drew me in and made me so excited to keep reading. Sara Ella manages to write a love triangle that fascinates me (Team Ky all the way!) instead of pushing me away. I’d give anything to get into her brain and figure out just how she did that!

Without a doubt, 5 out of 5 stars. Go buy your copy of Unblemished today!
